Last year's First Annual GayCharlotte Film Festival, held in April, was such a huge hit that Charlotte's Lesbian & Gay Community Center can't wait a full year before holding its second festival. Scheduled for January 28 - 31, 2010, the Second Annual GayCharlotte Film Festival is already shaping up to be bigger and better than last year's festival. The line-up includes hot, gay guy flicks, lesbian romantic comedies, general audience documentaries, and even gay-themed movies that are guaranteed to appeal to our straight allies.
Thanks to a generous grant award by The Wesley Mancini Foundation, the Festival will show "Little Ashes" which stars Robert Pattinson, the recent superstar of vampire movies “Twilight” and “New Moon.” In “Little Ashes,” Pattinson portrays artist Salvador Dali when he was a young adult experimenting with homosexuality. Festival programmers are thrilled that this movie will appeal to straight art enthusiasts while, at the same time, giving gay guys a chance to watch Pattinson in sexual encounters with other guys. For lesbian audiences, the romantic comedy “Drool” will give women the opportunity to ‘drool’ over Laura Harring who played the irresistible Rita in “Mulholland Drive.” Other movies in the line-up are "Big, Gay Musical" and "Itty Bitty Committee," a movie Charlotte’s own Victoria Eves appears in and worked on as part of the crew. Eves will conduct a Q & A at the conclusion of the film to discuss how the movie was made, the behind the scenes dramas that took place, and the politics behind making a full-length feature movie in Hollywood.
The Festival will kick off with an Opening Night Gala which includes a special showing of “Little Ashes” with Spanish tapas, sangria, and Spanish musical entertainment. Movies will run Friday night and throughout Saturday with a Sunday grand finale featuring one of America's newest blockbusters to hit the LGBT festival circuit.
